AI in the Classroom and Beyond: Insights from a Simon Roundtable

Artificial Intelligence is no longer a distant innovation—it is rapidly reshaping industries, classrooms, and the expectations of tomorrow’s workforce. In a recent roundtable discussion hosted by Simon Business School, faculty from across the University of Rochester examined how AI is transforming higher education and the broader business landscape.
The conversation, moderated by Mitch Lovett, Senior Associate Dean of Education and Innovation at Simon, explored how AI is evolving from a productivity tool to a strategic thought partner. Panelists discussed the implications of this shift for curriculum development, workforce preparation, and the role of human judgment in an increasingly automated world.
Participants included:
Dan Keating, Clinical Assistant Professor at Simon Business School
Huaxia Rui, Professor of Computers and Information Systems at Simon
Liza Mohr, Clinical Associate Professor at Simon and Faculty Director of the MS in AI for Business program
Chris Kanan, Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Rochester
Topics ranged from the ethical considerations of generative AI to the technology’s potential for enhancing research, programming, and even legal decision-making. Panelists also shared how they are integrating AI into their teaching and research, and what students can expect as the field continues to evolve.
