Simon in China: Connecting Alumni, Students, and Industry Leaders

January 23, 2025

The Simon Business School team recently embarked on an amazing trek to China, marking another milestone in fostering global connections and career advancement opportunities for our students. Led by Rebekah Lewin, senior assistant dean of admissions and programs; LaTanya Johns, assistant dean of the Benet Career Management Center and Professional Development; and Julie Sadwick, director of admissions, the team collaborated with alumni and corporate leaders to deliver an enriching experience for all involved.

The trip was made possible through the generous support of Daniel Ng ’89S (MBA), senior advisor at Altus Capital. Daniel’s vision and financial contributions have brought the Daniel Ng Corporate Trek to life, enabling staff and highly qualified MBA and MS students to engage directly with top companies across mainland China. This year’s trek included visits to nine esteemed organizations: Frees Fund, Sense Time, Xiaomi EV, Fan Shu, L’Oréal, PwC, Corning, Hugo Boss, and NIO. These visits offered invaluable insights into cutting-edge innovation and industry trends, further preparing Simon students for leadership roles in a rapidly evolving global economy.

The journey also featured two remarkable alumni receptions, held in Beijing and Shanghai. In Beijing, Daniel Ng shared his expertise in an executive chat titled “Lessons Learned in Leadership,” offering students and fellow alumni an inspiring perspective on his career journey. In Shanghai, the discussion shifted to “Leading through Times of Uncertainty,” featuring Daniel Ng alongside Liang “Tony” Zhang ’03S (MBA), Managing Director and Country CEO at Commerzbank AG. Both events underscored Simon’s strong alumni network and commitment to fostering meaningful dialogue on critical business topics.

“This trek exemplifies Simon’s dedication to equipping students with global business insights and connecting them with accomplished alumni,” said Rebekah Lewin. “It's wonderful to connect with our amazing and committed alumni, no matter how far away from Rochester we travel!” The Daniel Ng Corporate Trek is a transformative experience that strengthens the bonds between Simon students, alumni, and industry leaders. Simon Business School extends our heartfelt thanks to Daniel Ng and all our alumni who made this trek a resounding success.
