What do you wish you had known before starting the program?

Yaqing Liu: Before starting the program, I wish I had known how important it is to start networking and building relationships early. I initially focused heavily on academics, but I realized later that connecting with classmates, alumni, and professors is just as critical for personal growth and career opportunities. 

Networking allows you to learn from the experiences and perspectives of others, broadening your understanding of different industries, roles, and career paths. These connections can open doors to opportunities you may not have even considered.

Jiayi Li: I wish I had a clearer understanding of my career goals sooner so that I could have tailored my involvement in professional clubs more effectively. If I had spent less time deliberating, I could have invested that time into additional trainings and case sessions.

How did you decide that this specific program was right for you?

Yaqing Liu: I chose this program because it aligns perfectly with my career aspirations of leveraging data analytics to drive business insights. The curriculum focuses on building advanced analytical skills, which are essential for excelling in the field of data-driven decision-making. Additionally, the program’s collaborative and diverse environment fosters personal and professional growth. The numerous opportunities to engage in clubs and organizations provide enriching experiences, allowing me to gain valuable hands-on learning outside the classroom.

Jiayi Li: I had the chance to talk to an Admissions Ambassador and hearing honest feedback from current students was incredibly reassuring. I discovered that the MS in Marketing Analytics program offers solid, well-structured classes, which was exactly what I was looking for—to truly learn something meaningful, not just earn a master’s degree.

What’s the best piece of advice you’d give to someone considering a Simon MS program?

Yaqing Liu: One piece of advice I would give to incoming MS students is to develop strategies for balancing academics, networking, and personal time early on. The program is fast-paced and filled with opportunities, so managing your time effectively is key to making the most of your experience. I recommend creating a structured weekly schedule using a digital calendar. By blocking out dedicated time for studying, networking events, group projects, and personal activities, you can stay organized and ensure you don’t overlook important commitments while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Jiayi Li: I’d tell prospective students not to worry if they don’t have a background in quantitative fields. As long as you are willing to learn and put in the time, you’ll be a great fit for a Simon MS program.

What’s your favorite Rochester restaurant?

Yaqing Liu: My favorite restaurant is Texas Roadhouse. It’s a great spot to enjoy delicious food, unwind with friends, and relax with a drink while watching a sports game. The lively atmosphere and hearty meals make it a perfect place to hang out and have a good time.

Jiayi Li: My favorite restaurant is Seasoning Thai Bistro. I’m a big fan of Southeast Asian cuisine, and their dishes are great!
